A Green Wellness Paradise in Kolkata: Soak in the Sustainable Vibes at Vedic Village Spa Resort

A quaint resort tucked away in the outskirts of Kolkata is doing fabulous work toward environmental conservation and sustainable living. Vedic Village Spa Resort lies at the heart of Rajarhat, close to the sprawling Bengal Silicon Valley or the majestic Biswa Bangla Gate in New Town, Kolkata.

I have been to this resort multiple times in the last several years, for leisure and business. I have stayed here once with my wife. I have attended workshops in this resort in my previous organisation. I have been invited by this resort for some of their flagship events, and some where we have partnered with them, e.g. Skal International Kolkata’s annual Christmas event or the joint tree plantation or Women’s Day Out.

But this blog is not about all these events. It is about their AVP who is championing the cause of environmental sustainability.

 

It all started when the current Associate Vice President, Rajib Roy Choudhury joined this resort as the General Manager in 2021. Rajib da (as we fondly call him) is on a mission to heal the city with his craziest sustainable projects. His heart and soul have gone into making Vedic Wellness a nourishing brand with a difference.

He has collaborated consistently with international bodies such as Skal International and EarthDay.org on sustainable initiatives. I was lucky to be part of few, done this year. Most recently, he hosted the President of Skal Asia, Shekhar Divadkar (who had flown in from Goa for business meetings aligned with the Travel and Tourism Fair Kolkata) wherein he planted some saplings.

It is primarily due to the sustained green initiatives by Rajib da that Skal International Kolkata club bagged the first position from Skal Asia in tree plantation.

 

Nevertheless, these multitude of measures are creating a strong sustainable brand backed by a ESG framework. Vedic Village Spa Resort today is contributing with its environmental stewardship towards sustainable hospitality operations, farm to fork gastronomy, wellness and community development. They are actively working towards sustainable weddings and events by focusing on responsible celebrations, eco-friendly décor, waste reduction and sustainable event management.

These efforts are directly contributing to several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). That’s a unique brand positioning that Rajib da has led Vedic Village Spa Resort to. It would score high on the environmentally sustainable parameters, if we were to mark hotels and resorts with a green rating.

The state of West Bengal and our country need more hospitality leaders such as Rajib da. It makes economic as well as environment sense to have hospitality professionals like him to heal our planet.
